My Mac Quad

8 January 2014

I will happily put my hands in the air and admit that I'm an eyeshadow n00b. For years, the only time I wore eye makeup was on a night out, and then it consisted of lashings of mascara, heavy eyeliner and black eyeshadow everywhere - hence how battered my Carbon looks. In the last few months though, I've been experimenting with my eyes a little. I've finally got round to filling my palette, so I thought I'd share my thoughts on the shades with you.

Swatches L-R: MAC Carbon, MAC Mulch, MAC Naked Lunch, MAC Patina

Carbon was my first MAC eyeshadow, and to be honest, it was a disappointment. For so long I'd heard bloggers and youtubers talking about how impressive MAC eyeshadows are, and this shade didn't meet my expectations. Don't get me wrong, it's a highly pigmented shadow, but it ends up *everywhere*. I have to do some major clean up after using this shade, and it seems to transfer easily when initially applied. Having said that though, this Carbon the blackest black shadow I've found. I might have to trade this one out for a dark brown, but for now it's the one matte in my palette and still a night out shade.

Ladies, if you have blonde hair and blue eyes, you need Mulch in your life. This will seriously make your eyes pop, it's the most beautiful shimmery deep brown shade. This is fast becoming my new go-to smoky eye shadow when paired with MAC Tan pigment. This eyeshadow is so, so soft, it feels almost like a cream it's so buttery. This is a lovely chocolatey shade with red undertones and it's easy peasy to apply. I'd definitely repurchase this.

Naked Lunch is the newest addition to my palette, and I umm'ed and ahh'ed for so long about whether to add a highlight colour like this, or a dark matte brown. I'm really glad that in the end I went with Naked Lunch, as I don't own another shade like it and it's now my favourite highlight for under the brow! This shade reminds me of a pearl, it's a champagne shade but has a pink shimmer running through it.

Patina is my absolute favourite eyeshadow. In the pan and when swatched it looks a little bit boring, but in fact when worn it's a beautiful shade which is incredibly easy to wear, and has that same buttery consistency of MulchPatina is a light brown/grey shade with gold undertones. One sweep of this all over the lid and I'm good to go - it's perfect for every day wear.

  10. Patina is definitely a MAC eyeshadow I'm keen on getting - along with their old staple Satin Taupe (even though I probably already have 8 similar shades). Mulch also looks gorgeous! I'd love to take home some MAC shadows or even start my own palette but each eyeshadow is $35 here in Australia ... eeeek.

  16. loved this post (i'm new to your blog and doing a stalker style catch up on your older entries... that's not creepy at all haha). i've been debating whether or not to invest in a mac quad. i've been picking up a few of their shadows here and there and now i'm left with a handful of individual eyeshadows... i think i need to depot them all into a nice clean palette!
