OPI x Mariah Carey Holiday 2013: Silent Stars Go By

17 November 2013

When I heard that Mariah Carey (aka the Queen of Christmas hits) was collaborating with OPI for a holiday collection, I got a little excited. Yes, it might only be November, but that doesn't stop the women of the Owen household from blasting out a Christmas song or five when painting festive designs on our nails. Last weekend, Dominique opted for a slightly more intricate snow men/snow flake combo, whilst I layered on the latest addition to my polish collection, Silent Stars Go By.

I was always slightly dubious of the whole 'liquid sand' formulation, but after seeing swatches of this shade online I gave it a go. It's the perfect combination of pink and silver, topped off with my favourite thing, glitter. Silent Stars Go By is a beautifully seasonal polish, which is the perfect Christmas party shade - it reminds me of snow and baubles, but being a nude - my favourite shade family - it's subtle enough to wear through the build up to the big day. All that's required is two coats to achieve a very pretty, full on sparkle finish. The texture (which I was slightly put off by before trying out this varnish) is slightly gritty, but it doesn't feel too rough on my nails.

In terms of longevity, the stubborn texture of this polish meant that it remained chip free for longer than expected. However, despite the long lasting nature of Silent Stars Go By, one thing that really impressed me about this polish was how easy it was to remove. I assumed it'd be a bit of a pain to take off (we all know how tough glitter is to shift, and this is packed with it), but all it required was the standard cotton paid/polish remover combination. All in all I couldn't be happier with this polish. I'll most likely be sporting it on my nails come December 25th and may have added All I Want For Christmas (Is OPI) to my online basket. OPI, you've done it again.
