Cheeks | NARS One Night Stand Palette

9 November 2013

The NARS One Night Stand palette seems to be the belle of the beauty blogging world right now. As soon as I laid eyes on it a month or two ago I decided that it had to be mine, and pre-ordered it. At £45, it's one of the priciest pieces of make-up I've purchased.

One Night Stand is an ideal travelling or introductory palette, which consists of a bronzer, highlight and four blushers. Whilst I previously owned (and loved) the Laguna bronzer included in this palette - a beautiful shade, which shows very little shimmer once applied, (reviewed in full here) - everything else is new to me. I'd never even swatched the infamous Orgasm before this arrived, however now I understand why this blush is so popular. In the pan, it's almost rose gold, whilst on the cheek it gives a lovely rich pink (verging on coral) flush. Whether or not it's worth all the hype is questionable, but it's a very pretty shade. I sported both this and the rather similar Deepthroat at the same time, and have to say that I prefer the more pink Orgasm. Deepthroat definitely leans more towards the coral side of things, so I imagine I'll use this more frequently in Spring/Summer.

There are three shades which are exclusive to this palette: Mistinguette, Goulue and Devotee. The first was the shade which I was most excited about when I first saw this palette. Mistinguette is the perfect bright Barbie pink colour that I've been searching for. It's very bold, but can be blended out to add a subtle flush to the cheeks. It's the only matte shade in this palette, but is of the usual NARS high quality, and manages to avoid any chalkiness. Devotee is an absolutely beautiful frost highlighter. I like using this on my cheekbones, but my favourite way to use it has to be as a brow bone highlight. It's a very cool hue which is great at brightening the eye area, and flattering on my fair but warm skin tone. It's pink based, meaning it works really nicely when combined with all of the blushers in this palette. I really can't fault either the shade or lasting power of this highlight. In the pan, Goulue doesn't look to be anything special, but it was actually a pleasant surprise. It's perfect for Autumn - a deep red based pink, almost berry in colour, which when applied loses the majority of its shimmer. Although the pigmentation of everything in this palette is great, Goulue is the brightest of the bunch.

I felt it necessary to include the following disclaimer for this post. I'm aware that there's controversy surrounding aspects of Guy Bourdin's work incorporating violence towards women, and I would never endorse a product which is derogatory for females. I bought and reviewed this palette purely based on its contents.

  9. I'd be all over this palette if I didn't have Orgasm and Deep Throat already, and Laguna from a blush/bronzer duo with Angelika. It is certainly pricey but I think for 6 blushes it works out to be okay value for money - though certainly not inexpensive!
