OPI Original Nail Envy - £18.65
After a good few months of abusing my nails with acrylic extensions and plenty of shellac manicures, I thought it was about time to start giving my nails the care they deserve. I had reached the point where my nails were horribly brittle and constantly breaking, so after a few weeks of umming and ahhing and begrudging shelling out the extortionate cost, I finally purchased Nail Envy.
For those who haven't heard of Nail Envy, it's a nail strengthener which also doubles up as a base coat. For the first few weeks you initially apply two coats, and then add an additional coat every few days. Nail Envy applies smoothly, with a slightly glossy finish, meaning that it looks really pretty if worn on its own, but also that it provides a decent base for colours to be painted on top.
Whilst it's fine as a base coat, where Nail Envy really excels is as a treatment. My broken, brittle nails, whilst still not perfect, feel much stronger. My nails no longer snap or chip, and they just feel a lot stronger and smoother. Although I still keep them trimmed short, it's through choice, and not because of them constantly breaking. I haven't changed anything else in my nail care routine other than introducing Nail Envy to the lineup, so I really have to credit this product with their increased strength.
There are various formats of Nail Envy, and I've got my eye on the matte one next as I think it'll be perfect as a base coat. If you have flakey nails, I'd definitely recommend this product.

I was in Boots yesterday wondering whether to buy this or one of the other similar ones. I decided I needed to see some reviews first before paying out nearly £19, so I'm glad I found this post, thank you :)

I have this but have only ever used it as a base coat. I should probably try it as a dedicated treatment to see some results.
