April Favourites

5 May 2013

It's a cliché, but April has flown by. I can't believe we're in to the fifth month of the year, and it's only three weeks til I'm off to sunny Las Vegas! Normally narrowing down my monthly favourites is a bit of a challenge, but April was easy peasy. This month I've been loving one new product, three old favourites, and something that I'll hold my hands up and say I was initially very wrong about...

Savvy Soft Glide Eyeliner in Brilliant Brown
Ahh, the newbie of the bunch. Another item included in my swap with Jasmine, and another knockout product. That girl has seriously good taste! I've never been a brown eyed girl (geddit), but this  liner has completely changed that. It has the creamiest formula ever - seriously, it melts on to the skin! - but once applied, this eyeliner does not budge. So far I've worn it on the waterline and blended out on my lid and I love it both ways. The colour is also absolutely beautiful, it's a dark brown with a hint of bronze. Perfect for a brown smokey eye, I'm now completely sold on brown liner. This has to be the best pencil liner I've ever tried.

NARS Illuminator in Orgasm
I'm a little ashamed of how long I've had this in my collection now (we're talking two years, I know, disgusting), but it hasn't gone 'bad', and I love it so much that I can't bare to throw it out. I sometimes forget how much I love this highlighter and go a couple of months without using it, but once I do, I fall straight back in love. This is probably my favourite highlighter of all time. I love the texture - it's somewhere between water and a gel, which blends effortlessly when applied very lightly with my fingertips. In the tube, Orgasm is a peach shade with gold flecks, but blended out it's almost colourless. It gives the high points of my face a dewy glow. This isn't a traditional highlighter in the sense of it adding a champagne colour or 'lit from within' aspect to your skin, but it reflects light beautifully, and gives a perfect youthful, fresh faced look. One thing to remember with Orgasm is that less is definitely more.

NARS Blush in Amour
Amour is another oldie, but a goodie. It's the longest standing blush in my collection, but it was purchased in January 2012, so it's not too horrendously out of date (or so I like to tell myself...). It featured in my 2012 favourites, and is my go to blush when I want easy, simple makeup. The colour is a gorgeous deep pink, almost red shade which in the pan is a little terrifying, but once applied is flattering for my skin tone. It's very, very pigmented, so I only apply this with a very light hand, and out of all the blushes I own, Amour gives the most wear time. The texture is very soft, and the packaging is standard NARS - black, matte, and attracts dirt like no other. This is my 'trusty blush', and I definitely need to try more NARS blushes.

Sexy Hair Powder Play
Powder Play is my third 'old favourite', and something that I've repurchased over the years. I've got my brother hooked on using it too! Volumizing powders are all the rage now, but a few years ago this was one of the first on to the market, and it's the only one I've ever tried. Powder Play is a very finely milled white powder which, when applied, becomes invisible. You apply it at the roots, tease the hair and you're good to go - instant volume. I also found this is great for refreshing my fro on in between days, when my hair is a little greasy and flat. It has an almost 'gritty' texture which mattes hair, and won't brush out. However, this doesn't damage the hair in any way, and washes out easily. This is my favourite styling product, from my favourite hair care brand.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
I'll happily admit that I bought this because of the hype, used it once, hated it and declared I'd never use it again. I left it for a couple of months, but when I had an angry red blemish on my chin at the beginning of April I decided to give this another go, and I take back everything I've ever said. If you need a concealer which will give you plenty of coverage, this is for you. On a day to day basis I don't need this level of coverage, but for particularly bad blemishes, concealing under eye circles when I'm really tired, or special occasions which require a little extra something, this is ideal. I went for shade 02 light, which has pinky undertones, and it's the only thing I've found so far which actually covers the darkness under my right eye. This isn't the most moisturising concealer I own, but paired with a good eye cream or moisturiser it sits nicely on the skin.
