Swatches L - R: two coats colour, no gloss / two coats colour, one coat gloss

Recently, the majority of my lip posts have been raving about corals for spring/summer. You would think, given that it's now the end of March, these sorts of shades would be seasonally appropriate, but apparently not. As I type this, my little town is in to its 48th hour of constant snow fall, and the sky is still full of it. I'm ready to admit defeat - winter berry's are here to stay for a while longer yet.

During my recent pilgrimage to Sephora (read more about it in my France haul) there were a couple of things that I knew I was determined to purchase, and this was top of my list. I've been lusting after swatches for so long, but have to admit that upon first use I was a little disappointed. As in the photos above, I applied two heavy handed layers of colour to my lips, and the colour was so dark it seemed unwearable. My mum, dad and grandad all rather discretely told me they didn't like it, and this got pushed to the back of my lip drawer. Recently though, I decided to give it another go. I carefully wiped off all excess product, and gently applied one thin layer all across the lips. I gave it a minute to settle, topped it with the accompanying gloss (which somehow manages to stay perfectly clear, even layered over this shade) - et voila - it was love. A flattering, super glossy, berry lip had finally been achieved.

There are a few things you need to know about this product. When you apply it, apply it very carefully - once this baby is on, it's on to stay. In the bottom photo, I'd scrubbed my hand with Bioderma for well over a minute, and all that came off was the gloss. I put this to the pizza test (aka stuffed my face in the name of blogging) a few weeks ago, and it didn't budge. Without the gloss, it dries very, very matte. I'm talking the most matte thing I've ever used on my lips, so you'll want to make sure that you moisturise first. However, to balance that out, the gloss end of this is incredible - not sticky at all. It's not that long lasting (in comparison to the colour), so I seem to be getting through it a lot quicker than the colour end. Not to worry though - I'll just pick up a cheap clear gloss for every day use.

All in all, I couldn't be happier with this. It's what I've wanted every other lip lacquer to be, and given that the shade range is so vast, I'm sure there'll be one that suits everyone. I've got my eye on a peachy nude next - I know, what a surprise.
