My Current Skincare Routine

24 February 2013

I've never posted a full skin care routine before, because the products which I use change quite a lot, but I think I'm finally happy with my routine, and I have to say my skin is looking a lot better than it used to. Everyone's skin is of course different, so what works for me won't necessarily work for you, but I always find it interesting to hear what other people enjoy using. For reference, my skin is acne prone, and quite sensitive. I suffer from hereditary red cheeks and dark circles under my eyes (but no bags as of yet), and my type is definitely combination. I have areas which are extremely dry, and a slightly oily t-zone.

I like to start off my morning by diluting a few drops of tea tree oil in to hot water and steaming my face. I definitely think this has helped with keeping breakouts at bay. I cleanse with my Emma Hardie balm, and then sweep a cotton pad with my current favourite toner, Pixi Glow Tonic (which is now back in stock in their London store), over my face. Next I add Hydraluron, which I'm still unsure about, and if I remember, my Nuxe eye cream
My choice of moisturiser depends on how my skin feels, but it'll either be a Caudalie offering (I have the moisturising sorbet, premier vendanges and moisturising mattifying fluid), or my trusty Oilatum, which has been a part of my routine for the past few years. That's my morning routine sorted!
By the late evening, I'm on a mission to get my makeup off as quickly as possible, so for my eyes I use the Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser which I think has now been repackaged. I follow that up with Bioderma to take the top layer of my makeup off, and then cleanse with my Emma Hardie again.
Maybe twice a week I'll use my No7 Cleansing Brush, but I've not been using this for long enough to tell if I really like it or not. Then more Pixi Glow Tonic, followed by either Alpha H Liquid Gold, or my Caudalie SOS serum, which is so far leaving my skin plump and hydrated.
So there we have it, these are the products that are working the best for me at the moment. Are you using any of these? Would you recommend anything different for me?

  10. Really want to try the Emma Hardie cleansing balm and Alpha-H liquid gold! Cult products, those two.
I'm a huge fan of the brand Murad. They make a really good acne line that I feel is very effective. I currently use the exfoliating acne treatment gel and the spot treatment, and they're really great.

  11. I've heard good things about Pixi Glow Tonic as a possible dupe for Biologique Recherche P50. If it's back in store I think I'll have to pick some up next week. Thanks for the heads up x Becky

  14. I'll have to give the tea tree oil idea a go - I don't get breakouts very frequently, but when I do, they're bad! Also, what's your experience with the No7 - Clairosonic dupe? I've been thinking about purchasing one, but haven't found enough reviews on it yet..

    1. Hi Killian! I've only used it a couple of times so far, so I'm not really sure. I haven't broken out, but I also haven't noticed much of a difference to my skin. I'll definitely post a review in a couple of weeks :)

  15. What an amazing skin care collection you have! I'd love to try all of those products especially some Emma Hardie!

As for the No7 cleansing brush, do you know how it compares to the Clarisonic? I know the above comment by Killian asks this too, but I had a terrible experience with the Mia 2 in which the infamous 'purging' stage never ever ended. I tried it for over nine months and eventually had to stop as my skin was sore with acne (horrible I know). But I do recognise the benefits of electronic cleansers and would like to try another!

    1. Hi Claudia - thank you very much :)

I was initially hesitant to use this for fear of a purging phase, but so far so good. This rotates instead of oscillating, so it's slightly different to the Clarisonic. I do find it to leave my skin even more makeup free than just the EH. I have quite sensitive skin, so the 2nd setting on the no7 brush feels very harsh, but a friend advised me that the 1st setting is designed for sensitive skin, and I've had no problems with that :) I'll definitely post a review in a few weeks once I've given it a thorough testing
